Little Street Pantries Let People Leave Food And Goods For Those In Need

Since 2009, we’ve seen ‘Little Free Libraries’ pop up everywhere. Just recently in Fayetteville, Arkansas, they’ve been sprouting left and right.

Earlier this year, a local jogger named Jessica McClard thought of a way to make the boxes even better.

In May, she came up with ‘The Little Free Pantry.’

Using the same system as the ‘Little Free Library,’ locals can put in food and goods in exchange for the things they take or just to leave for others.

People can even start their own little free pantry if they want to!

“My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighborliness and address social problems,” Jessica said.

She put up her first little free pantry next to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in her area, and the project immediately became a success.

The pantries can include staple foods for people who can’t afford it.

Some offer school supplies for kids.

Or even feminine products and nappies for moms.

They have over 10k likes on Facebook and countless fans who’ve done the same to help their own towns.
